Tuition Fees

Tuition fees vary depending on the level of study, programme and higher education institution. The tuition fee is generally low. Public universities are generally free for locals. To know the exact cost of study, contact the respective higher education institution.

Living Expenses

Living expenses in Peru are low, and vary by location and facilities. You can expect to spend about 600 Peruvian nuevo sol per month. 

Student Accommodation

In Peru, there are many accommodation options available for students:

University residence: All the necessary facilities are available- kitchen, bathroom and dining facilities. The rooms can be shared by 2 or 3 people. Costs vary depending on the facilities and number of people sharing it.

Share a flat: Students can share a flat in Peru. You can expect to pay about 250 to 500 Peruvian nuevo sol per month.  The cost varies depending on the number of rooms, location and number of people sharing it. 

Family house: In Peru, students have the option of staying in a family house. You should contact the university to know if they have any contact list of trusted family houses. All necessary facilities are available. You can expect to pay about 450 to 700 Peruvian nuevo sol, depending on the amenities and location. If you rent a room alone, you can expect to pay 150 to 350 Peruvian nuevo sol.  

Rent a room in a student flat: The cost of student flats in Peru is low. Pupils share kitchen, bathroom and other common usage areas. You can expect to pay about 650 to 900 Peruvian nuevo sol, inclusive of services. 

Choose a place that is near to your university. This will save your travel time and money. 

Transportation

The road network in Peru is well developed. Buses are the most common mode of transport in Peru. They are economical and easily available. You can also travel by taxi, or a colectivo. 

Getting Around by Taxis

Taxis in Peru are reasonable and the most practical mode of transportation. Ask for the fare before hopping in a taxi. There are no meters in the Peruvian taxis. 

Shared Taxi

In Peru, shared taxis also run. They are called as colectivos. The colectivos in Peru follow a set route and pre-determined fare. The maximum capacity is 4 passengers. Fares are low within cities and towns, and high for long distance routes

Travelling In and Around by Buses

Buses are the most preferred means of transportation in Peru for long distances. Local buses are easily available and cheap. 

Getting In and Around by Minibus

In Peru, minibuses also operate and they are cheap. You can take combis or micros buses. These are minivans or minibuses with stickers along the outer side of the panel and destination placard on the front window. Buses have a conductor who hangs out the bus shouting out the destinations, and also collects fare.

Getting Around by Mototaxi

Mototaxis or trimovils are available in Peru. They’re basically rickshaws. Mototaxi is fast and easy way to get around Peru. Fix the price in advance. You can even haggle. 

Medical Insurance

International students who wish to study in Peru must possess an international health insurance policy, which guarantees to protect he holder’s health in any circumstance. It should cover your medical costs due to accident or any kind of illness, prescribed medicines and dental costs.
